FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
(Analog Linear Encoders and Decoder)

Q1. Will old Newall DRO parts work with the DigiBall DRO?

YES. In fact, the DigiBall Decoder was specifically designed to accept old (brand new) Newall Spherosyn and Microsyn reader heads and stainless steel scales.  You will require a 7-Pin to 9-Pin Conversion Cable for each encoder.

Q2. Do I need to buy a special PC?

NO. As long as the PC has a spare USB port the DigiBall Decoder will interface with the PC.

Q3. Do I need a new LCD screen?

NO. Any old screen will do. All DigiBall programs are written to re-size to all resolutions including the low one of 800x600, as found in old CRT displays.

Of course, new LCD screens are now very cheap and take up so much less space.

Q4. Will PC2DRO run on Windows 98?

YES. DigiBall programs will work on Windows 98, 98SE, ME, 2000 and XP. It does not run on NT since there are no USB inputs in that operating system.

Q5. Does my local dealer stock DigiBall products?

POSSIBLY. If your local dealer does not yet stock DigiBall DRO Systems then why not ask him to do so or, alternatively, simply buy direct from the DigiBall factory.

Q6. Can I network the DigiBall PC into the office system?

YES. This is one of the main benefits of using a DRO-PC system. All DigiBall programs are written for a Windows' environment and standard Windows' commands, such as Cut and Paste, are used.

Q7. Does the DigiBall manufacturer have a connection to Newall Measurement Systems Ltd. ("Newall")?

NO. Not at all. Laurie Petrie, DigiBall's inventor and maker, is an entirely seperate firm that has no connections whatsoever with Newall or any other DRO manufacturer.

DigBall has been designed; is produced and sold worldwide to enable machine shop users to upgrade to a PC-based DRO at the least expense.

Q8. Will connecting a Newall product to a DigiBall product cause either product to be become faulty?

NO. All DigiBall products were exhaustively tested in combination with Newall ones for over 6 years prior to the DigiBall DRO system being offered for sale.

During all that time no conflicts of any sort were noticed whatsoever.
